i'd like to sugest a more popular alternative to christianity: paganism! not only do we worship the old gods as we should... many pagan religions are still popular... shinto, budhism, hinduism... well, anything that's not christianity, judaism, and islam...

Paco, there is a certain level where religion becomes a very bad thing and it clouds minds, thus causing tragedies like the Holocaust...all we're saying is that its best for it to be taken in small doses.

yes, we've seen it before. And MightySage, the holocaust was just caused by a madman manipulating his people to believing that all problems would be solved if an inferior race was eliminated, thus leaving the aryan race to prosper, it wasn't solely religion based. But the crusades were the product of religion, but also the pope manipulating people for other purposes.

hitler didn't want to eliminate the jews... atleast until he captured the ukraine, poland and a few other areas... it was his underlings who did it... and funny thing is that they wanted them out of the german reich not necessarily dead... the slavs, however.... is a different story... best summed up in one word: lebensraum.
as for the crusades.... it wasn't purely a religious... there was a sizable warrior class since the danes converted(killing a cooler religion in the process) to catholicism and not to mention the various lords and barons who were itching for a fight... once a crusade was declared the first victims were naturally the jews, then other christians... then finally and properly, the 'heathen' muslims....

I think the children's crusade was kinda funny in a sadistical way... What with all those thousands of children leaving home and thinking that the Mediterranean was going to part for them to go to the Holy Land and win over the Muslims with their childish Christian innocence but when the sea didn't part they went to take merchant ships that ended up just selling them into slavery in the Byzantine Empire....

it's really possible that the children's crusade didn't happen, let's just use reason, here.... it's pretty possible it was faked by the pope at the time... communications being what they were in the middle ages, that is quite simply hard for me to believe that would actually happen... unless it was greatly exaggerated beforehand, you never really know with christians, though... they're all brainwashed into thinking an actor is the 'son of god' and could pull a cup of wine out of his ass...

It would have been the same as the regular crusades that everyone thinks of when the crusades are mentioned. The pope would have given the order and it would have trickled down the ladder and eventually everyone would know, especially considering the fact that pretty much everyone in Europe at the time was a Christian and the Church was pretty much everything in their life.

And how was Jesus an actor? Considering he was a carpenter by trade.

I personally believe that Jesus was just a regular person who thought he heard voices.
