Tierd of using black match? To broke to buy visco?
Well, today we'll be learning how to make decent NC to be used in a variety of different pyrotechnical applications.
2g Cellulose 25g nitrating salt (Your choice, AN is a bit better to work with) 30ml H2SO4
Start preparing the nitration mixture by slowly adding the nitrate to the acid, making sure to stir and ensure it has disolved. Once the HNO3 fumes have died down, start adding the cellulose bit by bit.
Stir for 5 minutes or so then leave the mixture to nitrate (I have found that about an hour yields good results).
After an hour has passed, the NC will need to be neutralized. Start by breaking the hard cellulose up by adding water, then further wash with an alkali solution of your choice (Avoid ammonia).
Once the NC has dried, do a flame test - (Should 'poof' out of existance).
Congratulations! 4 grams of trinitrocellulose! ;D
A lacquer can be made by dissolving the NC in acetone then applying the paste to black match.

I would seriously try this but I don't have any cellulose, sulfuric acid or nitrating salt.
Time to pay a visit to my school's chemistry office...
