It's great, Dave!!! Looks really good for a free hand - nice, sharp, no rubber marks - the art teacher lied to you if he said your stuff wasn't good. DEATH TO CHAVS!!!
(BTW, I fixed the link for ya so the pic was right here instead)

Well, here's some info that might help you: If you can't draw hands, then don't draw anything but hands for a while. Just look at your hands and see how cool they are. Notice that the fingers are most likely about the size of the palm, and how the thumb fits in with the hand, and just how to make the hand as realistic as possible (if that's what you're going for) in your drawings. As for your muse, or as I like to call it, "Inspirato", there are even more ways to find it. If I were doing a chav drawing like that one, I would try to observe some chavs for a while. See what makes 'em tick and stuff, or study the probable mentality of a chav. If I was just bored, there are some very good ways to find my inspirato. Listen to one of your favorite, most emotional songs. Or go see a movie, or watch one that you already have. Or play a really cool game. Chances are it'll be a Final Fantasy game, or at least one made in Japan.

I actually think that the hands suit the straight line style of your drawing, Dave (if you look, you tend to use curved lines a lot less and the hands work well because of this). Do you remember "The Gorillaz" or whatever that band was called? This reminds me of a better drawn version of them.

I agree. The hands are very well suited to his style, it's just not as realistic as most peoples' styles. I never said they were bad.

Yeah, the hands give him a sort of thugish gorilla-esque moron feel. I like it!

Well, maybe that's why he bitches at you if you're drawing instead of doing your proper art (if he just bitches at you, that sucks...).
My history poster on the Nazis looks really cool; I made two copies - 1 is translated into German!

Nick, don't ever let anyone tell what to do. Doddling in your sketch book is absolutely alright. If you do let that art teacher boss you around then that means that you have accepted the everyday slavery that teachers and parents constantly try to convince you to accept. Don't let your will be broken by one fool!
