I've had this on my mind for the last couple of days, and it's actually starting to get annoying because it's all I can think about. Presentation is going to be poor because I've never been good at putting my ideas on paper, but hopefully you can survive it. Anyways, the idea is a strategy game like Halo Wars or C&C, but played in a first person perspective. Which has probably been done before on PC, but I don't think it's ever been done on a console via Live like this.
With aspects of ODST/MW2, and if you've ever played it/heard of it, Pure. Basically it's my fantasy game(as sad as that sounded), and I wanted to hear your gir-guys opinions on it. Probably cost a crap load to make, and honestly I'd only be willing to present it to Microsoft were it possible for me to. What with it not being fit for the Wii and Sony sucking large hairy balls.
After writing this I had an idea, instead of having all of the vehicles re-spawn like in Halo, teams can buy certain ones like the tank. That way they can't be stolen by the other team and with a one per round limit no one can be an ass and spam with it. Which ever team wins the round would get a point bonus while the losing side started with the same number. The winners wouldn't get enough to have a big advantage like a second tank, but instead maybe an extra light vehicle or something. Which still doesn't solve the spammer problem, but there isn't much you can do about that. Maybe limit players to only one or two non-custom purchases.
The four main things I personally want in a game are good graphics, customization, multiplayer, and whatever movement of characters in game would fall under(animation just doesn't sound right to me). With Halo so far being the only game that I consider "good". But it falls short in several places, not counting matchmaking because Bungie has no real effect on the jackasses that ruin it. Maps probably being the biggest. Halo 2 had maps that kicked ass, but it's graphics just aren't good enough after playing 3. And Halo 3 had some pretty awesome maps, namely Sandbox and Guardian, but for the most part they sucked. *cough*DLCpacks*cough* Graphics were great, but the maps failed. And as I much as I love the customizable Spartan/Elite Armor, the character always seems too, "robotic".
ODST was pretty much the same way. I know it's an expansion and Bungie kind of pulled a Halo 2 on us with it, but still. The enemy's, minus the fact that it lacked Elites(but I'm letting that slide because we get 'em in Reach, or at least had damn well better get them), were pretty great. New buggers, as annoying as they were, all the kinds of Brutes, and a variant on the Hunters. But most of all it had "real" soldiers in it, no falling from the tops of a building and being able to walk it off. Which is all good and dandy, but I personally prefer that human touch the ODST's brought. You know, having to worry about your health bar like in CE.
I've only played the first one(and hated that too), but I hate MW2, for so many reasons. Only reason I'm even mentioning it is because, like ODST, is has "real" soldiers in it. The character, if you can call 'em that, that the player takes control of in multiplayer are horrible though. You die way too fast in it.
Finally, there's Pure, which sucks because it's completely 1 player on a single console, but you can customize your ATV from the ground up, right down to the color of your handle bars. Which is pretty sweet.
Right then, onto the part that has some actual meaning. My idea was a game set, say a hundred years, into the future. Humanity has moderately fast space travel, kick ass weapons like the Spartan laser, and other ones based off recent advancements today. All while still lacking that "futuristic" sense always portrayed in a Utopian world where every things nice and shiny or we have flying cars.
Somehow we manage not to fck up relations with at least one alien race and befriend 'em(like the Elites). On the other hand we do manage to screw it up with this other race that leads several other races still, to come to the conclusion that humanity needs a good old fashioned ass whooping(hopefully Bungie wouldn't sue for that). An ass whooping that'll wipe us off the face of existence to be precise. Not the whole giant ring world in space kind of off the face of universe like in Halo, but a good old, down to earth, blow the crap out of the planet with some big ass guns, kind of off the face of existence.
This is where the ODST/MW2 thing comes in. The player takes control of an elite soldier like the ODST, complete with the health pack bit, and gets caught up in all of this with his team in some unoriginal little adventure. Which extends over to the multiplayer half as you take on a Cod sort of play, but a longer life span like in H3. No jumping over Warthogs with your super human jumping abilities, inhuman grenade throwing across the map, and maybe taking a little while longer to get in the damn vehicle. But you get to make up for it with super cool, but only for looks, customizing action, right down to your crotch protector.
Now before we get to the maps bit, how 'bout some vehicle, mm'kay, because this is the Pure part of this whole mess of a post. Think about it, if you can manage the brain power necessary(just kidding), customizable vehicles. No, not being able to change the color, or give it a better engine. I mean from the ground up, all the works. You want a Warthog like thing with some bad ass laser gun like the Gauss cannon on the back, tank tracks in front, and wheels in the back? Well, maybe not a reverse half track, but how about a six wheeled rip off of a Gauss hog with three passenger seats?
Now I know what your thinking, "But Chalupa, what about the little 12 yr old boys that are going to just slap on the biggest gun they can with super fast wheels?!". Two words: Customs, and looks. It'd be lame if you couldn't go driving around on Live showing off your hot rod flames while shooting bad guys, so aside the from the weapon(if it's even an armed vehicle), is all for looks. Except for a sole play list, just for the people with no friends/none that want to do it. In customs the weapon deal would be removed though. Allowing all the little kiddies even more customization with maps.
And last, but not least, the maps. Which would be big, and I mean BIG. No walking from one side to the other in less than a minute. Not lame variants or rip offs from the campaign, well, maybe one or two from the campaign. For the most part they'd be original and centered around slayer game play, with a few select ones designed for one sided games like CTF. And maybe some kind of destructible object like a bridge or two to slow players down, even stopping some vehicles completely. Which could of course be repaired by either team using the special units I mentioned earlier. Along with maybe deploy-able turrets like the shade with a one per round limit.
I have a few more ideas, namely map and campaign missions, but this is just a rough draft of sorts. Long read as it is. >_>
Thoughts? Laughs? Smexy timez?
