I think it should take place on an Earth colony or something. That's not a bad idea, but it's been overdone. But since we're dealing with humans I guess it would have to have been a colony, how else would they have come to a distant planet?... or what if the humans were sent there against their will?

Hmm...Perhaps if the Hero gets killed by the group, there could be a friend/relative/etc that tries to take his place? As for it being on Earth or not, maybe a different dimension? 1. That's definitely an option. We'll see how the plot comes along. 2. Ok, we could make it happen on earth but an earth that is in a different dimension that only a few people could access? These few people are "special" and they do stuff there... and somehow them doing that stuff leads to conscience robots who attempt to take over that dimension. The problem is the complexity of doing things in a different dimension, unless you guys could think of a way to make to simplify it because we definitely need a setting first; we need to know where it's gonna take place, what happens (main plot) and then we can work with characters. If we're really stuck, then we'll just have to brainstorm ideas.

I drew up some non-stereotypical aliens and some of their technologies I'll put up later.

Alright, now we have to somehow incorporate aliens into the story.
Or we could save the drawings for a later comic, whatever works best.

The aliens could be like, either the native inhabitants of the planet the humans colonized(if we use that Idea) or they could be the first alien species humans really came into contact with, or something.

I'm guessing thousands of people.
This is how I'm picturing it: 1) This takes place in a time when inter-planetary travel is possible. The earth has become a shit-hole everywhere and corruption and dictatorship are present in every part of the world.
2) A group of people, I guess by the thousands, say "fuck this, we want to leave. We'll find a planet capable of supporting life." Other people have unsuccessfully tried to find planets capable of supporting earth life but thoey couldnt do it and were never heard of again.
3) The group somehow get to this planet which has the ability to support life. I dont how they get there, worm holes maybe?
4) They set up a thriving civilization which at first was crappy because people were acting retarded but the four biggest groups deciding to combine and become one through some treaty. This treaty made the colony a happy place.
5) A few people one day go exploring and find aliens technology on this planet. They tell others and people wonder where the actual inventors of the technology are.
6) One alien reveals himself to a major leader of the humans. She is the leader of one of the four main groups. The alien tells her that the technology they find should be used to enslave the other three human groups and make hers the best. She dislikes the idea at first but becomes intrigued and the alien eventually convinces her. She somehow gets her people to except the new role the robots have in society but people dont actually know these robots are taking over the place. The robots look like humans and are infiltrating the society by taking over the jobs and making themselves leaders.
7) The hero suspects something is up and does something to find out the truth. He does something else to gain the acceptance of his group of people.(Remember there are four main groups; we can seperate these groups based on the continent they came from or somehting)
8) The hero's group and the enemy's group collide and fight. This is when the robotic humans reveal themselves and a major war erupts.
9) The hero dies in battle but his friend finds a way to hack the central system where the robots are being controlled and he installs a virus into the system.
10) The robots malfunction and "die."
11) It is revelaed the gov't actually set up the whole thing to destroy the colony because they hate rebels. They made sure the ship had gone to this planet and this exact spot so they could destroy them. The alien technology was just advanced technology the gov't the researched.
12) The colony is stilll alive but the gov't wants them destroyed so a sequel could be in order.
You guys can name the characters and places and please tell me what you want changed or added. There are still many holes, we'll have to fill those holes with fresh, funky, hip ideas.

Is it ok if the aliens live an entirely aquatic lifestyle and can only leave the water aided by machines?

lol.I was drawing a robot in class and when my teacher looked at it he said" You have alot of characters there. You should make a comic."
Anyway, so far I got three bots. The first is what I'd consider a pretty standard battle robot, humanoid, and with a cannon for a right arm. I call him M99. The second I've named "Reticle"(aka M257), and is a bit more heavy artillery-like, with a tri-cannon for one arm, claws on the other, multiple blasters and cannons on the rest of its body, and with a tank for a lower half. The third, M68, is best compared to the bad guy from Iron Man. Big-ass suit/robot,heavily armored, claws on one hand and cannon on other.

Alright, but are you just trying to make the aliens aquatic-looking or is it neccessary that they live in the sea?

I can't wait to see those 'bots.
